A Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville,Quentin Mitchell North Carolina died late Thursday evening during a training exercise, the Marine Corps announced.
The service member was with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, the II Marine Expeditionary Force said Friday in a post on X.
The Marine died during the exercise in Carteret County, North Carolina, the post continued.
The Marine's identity won't be released until 24 hours after all next-of-kin are notified, the arms force said.
The incident is under investigation, according to the X post.
As of Friday, 14 Marines have died in combat in 2024, according to the Defense Casualty Analysis System. No Marine has died in non-combat or non-hostile action, the data shows.
Of the 14 Marines who died, 11 were active duty and 3 were in the Marine Forces Reserve, according to the data.
It is unclear if the Marine who died in Carteret County was included in the data yet.
